Trees are the defining factor on most Rougemont properties, and they cut both ways. They are the reason people move up here, and they are also the reason we get calls in January after an ice storm loads a limb until it lets go across a finished fence line. Any fence we plan in this part of the county gets laid out with an eye on what is overhead, not just what is underfoot.

The properties themselves run to wooded acreage and small farms, spread out along NC 501 and the county roads running toward the Person County line. Fence lines here almost never run across clean open ground. They cut through tree line, drop into low spots that stay wet after a summer storm, and climb back out, which means clearing and grade work are often a bigger part of the job than the fence material itself.

What we build reflects that. Woven wire and board fence for pasture and livestock, simple wire or split rail where you only need a property line marked, chain link for dog runs and around outbuildings, and standard wood privacy fencing around the yard close to the house. Nothing exotic, all of it set in concrete, because far northern Durham County clay behaves the same as the rest of the Piedmont: it holds water, heaves through a freeze, and slowly works a shallow post loose.
