Fence Installation in Hillsborough, NC

Hillsborough is really two fence markets in one town. Around the historic core, you have older homes on irregular lots where the fence has to suit the architecture and the neighbors have opinions worth listening to. Push out toward Waterstone, Collins Ridge, or Churton Grove and it becomes subdivision work: consistent lots, covenants to satisfy, and a homeowner who mostly wants a straight, well-built privacy line and no drama.

The terrain is the common thread. This is Eno River country, and the ground rolls more here than it does further east. Very few Hillsborough backyards are actually flat, which is why we spend real time on the grade during the measure. A fence that ignores the slope leaves a gap at the bottom the dog will find in a week.

Choosing a material

Pressure-treated wood is still the most common choice for backyard privacy and the most forgiving on an uneven lot. Vinyl costs more up front and gives it back in maintenance — our PrivacyLock interlocking panels hold a gap-free line, and StayStrong pickets are built with deeper embeds so a solid panel takes a summer thunderstorm without loosening. Ornamental aluminum with SolarShield powder coating is what we install where you want to keep a view, enclose a pool, or put something at the front of the property that will not rust through a Piedmont summer.

All of it goes into the same red clay, and all of it gets set in concrete for that reason. If you want a number, the only honest way to get one is to have somebody measure the yard. Estimates are free and on-site, our office is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week, and the number is (919) 335-4008.

Hillsborough Fence Questions

My backyard slopes. How do you keep the fence from leaving gaps at the bottom?

Two ways, depending on the grade and the material. On a gentle slope we rack the panels so the fence follows the ground in a continuous line. On a steeper pitch we step the panels down, which keeps every section level and gives a cleaner look at the top rail. We will tell you which one your yard calls for when we measure, and show you what each will look like.

We are in an older part of town. Will a new fence look out of place?

Not if it is specified properly. Height, picket width, spacing, and cap style are what make a fence read as period-appropriate or not. We can build a traditional flat-top or spaced picket that suits an older home, or use ornamental aluminum where you want the look of iron without the rust in a humid climate.

How deep do you set posts around here?

Deep enough to get under the seasonal movement in Orange County clay, and always in concrete. This ground holds water, and water plus a freeze cycle is what pushes shallow posts out of plumb. Gate posts get extra attention because they carry weight and swing load on top of everything else.

Do you handle the new subdivisions on the edge of town?

Yes. Neighborhoods like Waterstone, Collins Ridge, and Churton Grove usually have covenants covering fence height, material, and finish direction. We give you a drawing and spec sheet for the approval submission and build to whatever the community signs off on.
