Fence Installation in Smithfield, NC

Smithfield is the Johnston County seat, and its housing stock shows it. Within a few miles you have century-old homes on deep lots near the courthouse and Market Street, mid-century brick ranches with tired chain link in the back yard, and newer construction spreading out toward Buffalo Road and the county roads. Each of those calls for a different fence, which is why our estimates here start with a walk of the actual property rather than a price per foot over the phone.

Downtown, the constraints are usually mature trees, narrow side yards and a shared line with a neighbor whose fence went up thirty years ago. We work around root systems instead of through them where we can, and we are direct with you about where a post has to move a foot to save a tree. Out on the newer lots the job is simpler and the question is more often material: wood for warmth and cost, vinyl for the family that never wants to seal anything, chain link when the point is containing a dog in the largest possible area for the least money.

The Neuse River runs right along the edge of town, and that matters more than people expect. Low ground behind a property line holds water long after the rain stops, and any post set in tamped clay there will eventually lean. We set every post in concrete, and on the wettest sections we go deeper and leave clearance under the bottom rail so water and debris pass through instead of loading up the panels.

Smithfield also has a working commercial side, from the outlet corridor out to I-95 to the shops and storage yards along US 301. Chain link with proper drive gates is a large part of what we install on that side of town, and we spec it for the traffic it actually has to take rather than the lightest fabric that meets the description.

Smithfield Fence Questions

Can you match the fence my neighbor already has?

Usually. On a shared line the practical answer is often to tie into what is there rather than build a second fence a foot away. Bring us a photo or let us look at it during the estimate and we will tell you honestly whether matching it is worth doing or whether the old fence is close enough to the end of its life that replacing the whole run makes more sense.

Our back lot line is low and stays wet after a hard rain. Can you still fence it?

Yes, but the spec changes. Ground that holds water near the Neuse bottomland needs deeper footings and, in some spots, a gap left under the fence so debris and water can pass instead of pushing on the panels. We will walk the low section with you and point out where we would do that.

Do you replace fence sections damaged in a storm?

We do. Remnants of tropical systems come up this way most falls and take down limbs, and ice storms do the same in winter. If the posts are sound we can often reset and replace only the damaged panels. If the posts are rotted at grade, we will tell you that instead of patching around a problem you will be calling about again next year.

Do you handle commercial fencing for Smithfield businesses?

Yes. Chain link with drive gates for equipment yards, storage lots and light industrial sites is standard work for us, and we can spec fabric gauge, height and gate widths to what the site actually needs. Ask for a commercial estimate when you call and we will bring the right person out.
