Angier Fence Installation

Angier calls itself the Town of Friendly People, and it has spent the last several years becoming a commuter town as well as a small one. It sits on the Harnett County side of the Wake County line, close enough to Fuquay-Varina and Raleigh that a lot of new residents work north and come home to a bigger lot than they could afford up the road. That mix means we install two fairly different kinds of fence here, sometimes on the same street.

The first is the standard suburban job: a six-foot privacy fence enclosing the back yard of a newer home on a half-acre or so, in pressure-treated pine or in vinyl. For vinyl we use PrivacyLock panels that interlock so there is no gap between the boards, with a SolarShield coating that keeps the white from chalking after a few summers, and StayStrong pickets that sit deeper in the rail than standard panels do. For wood, the honest tradeoff is a lower price now in exchange for a wash and a seal every few years. Both are good fences when the posts are done right.

The second is rural. Plenty of Angier addresses sit on several acres out toward the county roads, and those jobs want split rail or three-board along the drive and the road frontage, a defined enclosure around the yard, and sometimes woven wire or mesh-backed rail for animals. We price those sections separately so you can decide where the money goes rather than getting one number for everything.

Why the footing matters here

Harnett County red clay behaves the way it does across the Piedmont: it holds water through a wet spring, swells, then shrinks and cracks in a dry August. That movement works on any post that was set shallow or simply tamped into the hole, and a January freeze finishes the job. We dig below the layer that moves, set every post in concrete, crown the top so water sheds away, and put the largest footings under the gate and corner posts. It is the least visible part of a fence and the only part that determines whether you are still happy with it in fifteen years.
