Fence Installation in Garner, NC
Garner is an established town, not a new one, and that shapes the work. Neighborhoods around Vandora Springs, Aversboro Road, and Heather Hills were largely built between the 1960s and the 1990s, which means a lot of the fencing in this part of Wake County is at or past the end of its service life. More than half of what we do in Garner is replacement rather than first-time installation.
Why old fences fail here
They almost always fail at the ground line, and the cause is usually the same. A post set directly into red clay sits in soil that holds water instead of shedding it, and that constant moisture at grade attacks the post from the outside in. Add three decades of humid Piedmont summers, a few ice storms, and the wind that comes off a summer thunderstorm, and the fence goes over. When we replace a fence in Garner, the posts go into concrete, which lifts the critical zone out of the wettest soil and is the reason our post work carries the warranty it does.
What we install
Pressure-treated pine is still the default in Garner, and shadow-box or board-on-board builds match what is already on most of these streets. Chain link has a real place here too, particularly around larger back lots near Lake Benson and White Oak where the goal is containment rather than privacy, and black vinyl-coated chain link looks considerably better than what people remember. Vinyl is the low-maintenance option for homeowners who are done with the stain-every-few-years routine, and PrivacyLock panels with StayStrong pickets give a solid line that does not need refinishing.
Because so much of the work here is a replacement, timing matters. We can usually give you a firm sequence when we quote, covering the tear-out, the disposal, and the build. Older Garner lots also tend to have utilities that predate current mapping conventions, so we call in locates on every job without exception.

Garner Fence Questions
Do you tear out and haul away the old fence?
Yes, and on most Garner jobs that is part of the scope. Demolition, post removal, and disposal all get priced into the quote so there is no surprise line item and nothing left stacked in your driveway. Old concrete footings come out too, since leaving them in the ground limits where new posts can go.
The fence is on the line I share with my neighbor. What now?
Talk to them before you call us. If the existing fence sits on the shared line, replacing it is a conversation worth having early, and some neighbors split the cost. We can build entirely on your side of the line if you would rather keep it simple, and we will show you exactly where that puts the posts during the estimate.
Is chain link still worth installing?
For the right job, absolutely. It is the most economical way to enclose a large area, it does not block light or airflow, and it holds up. Black vinyl-coated chain link is far less visually intrusive than the galvanized version most people picture, and it works well for dog runs and back property lines where privacy is not the point.
Can you repair a fence instead of replacing the whole thing?
Sometimes. If the posts are still sound and plumb, replacing damaged boards or a section of panel is reasonable. If the posts are rotted at grade or leaning, patching around them is money spent twice. We will give you an honest read on which situation you are in.
