Fence Installation in New Hill, NC
New Hill sits at the quiet southwestern corner of Wake County, at the crossroads of old US 1, New Hill-Olive Chapel Road, and New Hill Holleman Road, with Bonsal just down the old rail line and Harris Lake filling much of the land to the south. Jordan Lake is a short drive west. This is the most rural part of our Wake County territory, and the fencing reflects that. Very little of what we build here is a builder-standard back yard.
Acreage changes the whole conversation
The first question on a New Hill property is not what material, it is how much. A parcel measured in acres has a perimeter measured in thousands of feet, and treating all of it as residential privacy fence is a fast way to a number nobody wants. What works is layering. A finished fence around the house and the yard you actually live in, and a lighter agricultural build around the pasture, the boundary, or the road frontage. That combination gets you a property that looks intentional without pretending a hayfield needs a privacy screen.
Driveways deserve separate thought. Long private drives are the norm out here, and a gate across one carries real load and real expectations. Gate posts get oversized and set deeper than line posts, and the opening needs to accommodate a delivery truck or a piece of equipment rather than just a sedan.
Ground conditions
Southwestern Wake sits on the same dense red clay as the rest of the Piedmont, with the same tendency to hold water rather than shed it and the same seasonal swell and shrink that walks a poorly set post out of plumb. Every post we set goes into concrete. On wooded parcels there is a second variable, which is root plate. We adjust spacing to work around major roots instead of cutting through them, because a severed root is bad for the tree and a post set in the void left behind is bad for the fence.
Exposure matters here too. Near the water and across open ground, a fence takes wind that a suburban lot never sees, from summer thunderstorms and from the remnants of coastal systems working inland. Winter ice storms bring limbs down on fence lines every few years. Correct footing and construction is what determines whether that means one damaged section or a hundred feet on the ground.
We take calls at every hour of the day, every day of the year. Call (919) 335-4008 or request a free on-site estimate, and we will drive out, walk the property, and leave you a written price.

New Hill Fence Questions
We have several wooded acres. Can you fence through trees?
We can, but there is a decision to make first. Running a fence line through standing timber means clearing a working corridor, dealing with roots at every post, and accepting that limbs will eventually land on it. Many owners out here fence a cleared perimeter around the yard and pasture and leave the woods open. We will lay out both options on site.
How much does a driveway gate add?
More than people expect, and it is worth doing properly. A long private drive needs an opening sized for delivery and service vehicles, not just a car, and the gate posts carry far more load than line posts do. Those get oversized and set deeper. Whether you want it manual or automated changes the number as well, and we will price both.
Is this the kind of property where farm fence makes more sense than residential?
Frequently. On acreage, enclosing everything in privacy fencing is rarely the best use of a budget. Post and rail, wire, or a combination build covers long boundaries at a manageable cost, and you put the residential-grade fence around the house and yard where it earns its keep. We are comfortable quoting either or both on the same property.
How do you find utilities and septic on a rural parcel?
We call in locates before any digging, without exception. Beyond that, we want to know where your well, water line, and septic drain field sit, because on older New Hill parcels those are often undocumented and not where the current owner assumes. Any plat or permit paperwork you can produce helps.
