Wendell Fence Installation

Wendell spent most of its history as a small farm town on the eastern edge of Wake County, and then Wendell Falls arrived and added thousands of homes to the west side of town. Both versions of Wendell are still there, sometimes within a mile of each other, and the fence that makes sense in one is rarely the fence that makes sense in the other.

Two very different jobs

In Wendell Falls, Amber Ridge, and Lake Myra, we are usually building a standard residential privacy line on a builder-sized lot with a community review in the way. Vinyl performs well in that setting because PrivacyLock panels hold a uniform line across a whole street and never need repainting to stay matched. Wood in a shadow-box or board-on-board build is the other common pick, especially where a neighborhood has already established that look.

Out toward the older parts of town and the parcels along the Little River, the job changes shape. Lots run larger, tree lines and pasture are in play, and the question becomes how much of the property actually needs a fence. Partial enclosures, drive gates wide enough for a tractor or a trailer, and agricultural fencing around the back acreage are all routine work for us out here.

Open ground and weather

One thing the larger Wendell lots have in common is exposure. A fence running across an open field takes wind that a fence tucked between two houses never sees, and eastern Wake gets the tail end of coastal systems along with the standard summer thunderstorm pattern. Shadow-box construction helps because it lets air move through the fence line instead of catching it like a sail. Post depth does the rest, and every post we set goes into concrete because Piedmont clay holds water, swells, and shrinks with the season rather than draining and staying put.

The other reality on rural parcels is what is underground. Wells, septic fields, and older utility runs are not always where you expect. We locate before we dig, every time, and we would rather spend an extra hour finding a septic line than an afternoon repairing one.
